Get Cavity Wall Insulation Installed With Eco Grants

Unfilled cavity walls could be costing you £100s each year. Cavity wall insulation can help your home stay warmer for longer and therefore significantly reduce the amount you spend on energy to heat your house up.

But did you know there are grants out there that could mean you qualify for a free cavity wall insulation government grant (or at the very least, have the majority of the cost covered by a grant)?

To find out if there are any grants out there for you, all you need to do is fill out our quick 60 second form.

After that, a member of our expert team will be in touch to discuss the eligibility criteria you meet for different grants and to advise you further about your next steps. If you qualify, we can also carry out the installation for you!

Is Cavity Wall Insulation Worth It?

For most people, yes! Insulation in your cavity walls will bring plenty of benefits your way, and it’s much cheaper than installing insulation on your external walls, for example. But there’s no denying that there are certain things you’ll need to consider before opting for this type of insulation over loft insulation or insulation for solid walls, etc, so it’s worth weighing the options up against one another to see if cavity wall insulation is the right eco home improvement for you.

Pros

  • Makes your home moreenergy efficient.
  • Lowers energy bills.
  • Helps control rising energy prices.
  • Greener way to live with less carbon emissions from your home.
  • Relatively cheap to install (and even cheaper/free insulation with cavity wall insulation grants).
  • Gives you a more comfortable home to live in.
  • Quick and easy to install.

Cons

  • Not suitable for all homes – especially if you live in a property that was built before the mid 1920s. During this time, solid walls were used rather than cavity walls, so there was no gap between your inner and outer wall that could be filled with insulation materials. Check your energy performance certificate if you’re unsure – it will usually mention whether cavity wall insulation has been installed or not.
  • Cavity wall insulation that gets damp won’t work so you’ll need to ensure the insulation is professionally installed.

What Is The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS)?

Formerly known as ECO+, GBIS began in summer 2023, and will last until March 2026. It aims to help over 300,000 homes in Great Britain with £1 billion in funding to support the least energy efficient homes. Free cavity wall insulation is possible here, but how much you’ll receive towards the cost of your installation will be decided on a case by case basis. For most, it will be free. For some, you may have to pay a little towards the cost yourself.

The Great British Insulation Scheme Eligibility Criteria

As the aim of the scheme is to support the most vulnerable households in Great Britain living in energy inefficient homes, you’ll need to meet criteria that reflect that. You must be:

  • Living in a home with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D-G, AND Living in council tax band A-D in England, A-E in Scotland and Wales
  • Be receiving means tested benefits AND
  • Have an EPC rating of D or below

How Much Can GBIS Save Me?

Because the UK government is targeting the least energy efficient homes, the savings you could see with proper cavity wall insulation are much higher – around £300 to £400 annually according to the government’s own estimates.

That could significantly improve your financial situation and help control the amount you spend on energy bills each year.

1 Child 2 Children 3 Children 4+ Children
Single-Parent Households £19,800 £24,600 £29,400 £34,200
Two-Parent Households £27,300 £32,100 £36,900 £41,700

Cavity Wall Insulation Grants FAQs:

No. Not everybody will be eligible for a grant, and even those that are might not have the full cost of cavity wall insulation covered. Still, it’s worth bearing in mind that cavity wall insulation is one of the cheapest and quickest ways to make your home more energy efficient. So even if you have to pay, it hopefully won’t break the bank!

As long as the building is standing. Or, that’s how long it’s supposed to last. If the home falls into disrepair and the cavity wall insulation gets damp, then you’ll need to replace it. Cared for properly, though, it will last for the entire lifespan of the building.

Each grant is different. But if you contact us today, our friendly expert team will be able to guide you further and advise you about the specific grant application process that’s relevant to you.

It’s difficult to say how much insulation for cavity walls will cost in the UK, because it all depends on things like the size of your property and the type of your property. A large detached property will cost significantly more to insulate than a small mid terrace, for example. On average, though, cavity wall insulation will cost around £1000-£4600 (prices correct as of October 2023) according to Energy Saving Trust. Remember, with the support of free cavity wall insulation government grants, the Energy Saving Trust estimates may be irrelevant to you because it could cost even less – or nothing at all! It’s also worth remembering the significant savings you’ll be making on your energy costs, too, meaning anything you do spend on cavity insulation will be recuperated in savings on your heating bills.
